Research forms the core of every biotechnology institute and MBG Lab is no exception. MBG Lab's research theme is focused towards enhancing our knowledge of the animal genome, especially species of local interest. This would provide invaluable information to the veterinarians and animal owners in this region.

MBG Lab is well equipped with various high throughput liquid handlers for DNA & RNA extraction, sequencing machines, robotic colony pickers, high throughput microarray machines, and real-time PCR machines.

The ongoing research programs at MBG Lab are at the forefront of molecular biology and aim at commercialization. These include the areas of diagnostics and genomics covering genotype & phenotype association studies, mitochondrial genome, gene regulation and expression, infectious diseases, functional genomics, fertility studies, developing species specific probes and chromosome karyotyping.

The projects completed so far are:

  • Evaluation of Microsatellite Markers from various Camelids in dromedary camel
  • Creation of Microsatellite Marker panels for Genotyping and Parentage Verification test in Camelids.
  • Construction and comparison of Chromosomal Karyotype of several Camelids species and their Hybrids
  • Complete Sequencing of Mitochondrial DNA of Dromedary Camel
  • Sequencing several Equine Genes
  • Identification of unique SNPs in equine genome
